Chico Xavier

Chico Xavier was a saintly man widely known as Brazil's greatest medium. He is the author of Nosso Lar, a global best seller made to film. Chico Xavier channeled a series of 13 books purported to be directly transcribed messages from Andre Luis, a late doctor . Their narratives depict the lives of departed souls in the hereafter.

Nosso Lar (Our Home) was published in 1944, the first of a thirteen-volume saga. The story takes place in the first half of the 20th century between Brazil and the colony of Nosso Lar in the afterlife. Written in the form of chronicles, it is narrated from the perspective of the spirit André Luiz, who recounts his observations from the other side. This work has been adapted numerous times, including a series of two films in 2010 and 2024. Although Wikipedia presents the book as a novel belonging to the genres of fantasy and science fiction, the author claims it is a true story he wrote thanks to his exceptional gift of mediumship. You may find some elements of the story surprisingly earthlike and not belonging to the idea we commonly have of an afterlife ---such as the mentions of day and night, institutions, and physical items like houses and food. Such mentions may be viewed as descriptive approximations to make the narrative more accessible to our understanding.

GODHEAD’s decision to feature Chico Xavier was based on what it sees as an exceptional opportunity to get a glimpse into what the afterlife may be like, with aspects that evoke the continued evolution of souls beyond our eathly boundaries.

Summary of Nosso Lar

In the 1930s, Dr. André Luiz dies from a serious illness. He finds himself alone, in a spiritual body, in the middle of a terrifying desert. Suffering from hunger, thirst, and exhaustion, he struggles to survive in this hostile world, populated by aggressive creatures. Reaching a state of extreme exhaustion, praying for his salvation, he is rescued by a providential man named Clarencio. André is transported to a fortified oasis, whose inhabitants seem to live in harmony. This spiritual colony is called Nosso Lar and contrasts sharply with the surrounding infernal environment, known as the Threshold. The doctor receives care and comfort, as well as explanations regarding the causes of his misfortunes. As the days pass, the newcomer regains his strength and is instructed by Lisias, a resident of the place. This guide provides teachings on the natural laws that govern the spiritual plane, the history and organization of Nosso Lar, the economic system, food, irrigation, and the community hierarchy. The purpose of this settlement is precisely the recovery and regeneration of those lost in the Threshold (the lower astral plane).

Once fully recovered, André seeks to be of service and applies for a job. During this application, his abilities and earthly experiences are analyzed. While awaiting assignment, he is delighted by a visit from his late mother. In a touching reunion, she tells him that she resides in a higher realm, but also that other family members (including André's father) are isolated, in negative states of mind that make them inaccessible at the moment. Homeless and without work, André stays with Lisias. He receives instruction on numerous subjects such as food, love, responsibility, the time-based compensation system, devotion, reincarnation, and the rules of communication with incarnate beings. Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Nosso Lar strengthen their ties with other spiritual colonies in order to better withstand the disruptions caused by the Second World War that has broken out on Earth. Finally, André obtains a position as a nursing assistant and, under Tobias's supervision, works in the hospital that cares for the survivors of the Threshold suffering from mental illness. These patients are those who lived on Earth only for material possessions and who therefore find themselves mentally infirm in the afterlife. Some former criminals, too scarred by their misdeeds, are kept outside the colony. Other lost souls are rescued by expeditions that venture beyond its walls. His new job gives André the opportunity to reconcile with Silveira and Elisa, two people whose ruin he had caused during his previous earthly life.

André can now temporarily join his mother when he sleeps and his spirit ascends to the spheres of the universe. He also completes his education on the practice of good, the role of thought, and marriage on both the earthly and spiritual planes. His new role gives André the opportunity to reconcile with Silveira and Elisa, two people whose ruin he had caused in his previous earthly life. The defenders work to preserve life in the colony. The doctor

discovers that all worlds are interconnected and that the different levels of the universe are constantly interacting.

One day, André's mother comes to explain that her former husband (André's father) will soon be reincarnated and that she has chosen to incarnate as well in order to be his wife again. She hopes in this way to help her husband, who is still very spiritually underdeveloped. Other inhabitants of the afterlife accept the sacrifice of a new earthly existence to support their loved ones. The doctor's efforts at the Nosso Lar hospital earn him the reward of a visit to his former home. André is overjoyed at the thought of seeing his wife and children again on Earth. However, a brutal shock awaits him: his wife has remarried. After a moment of anger, André comes to understand the meaning of love and does everything he can to heal his wife's second husband, who was on the verge of succumbing to an illness. Strengthened by this experience, he returns to the colony and receives the title of citizen of Nosso Lar.
